I adore this image from
Tommy Smythe's bedroom. It is quite masculine, but I think that is what draws me into this particular image. The dark mahogany makes this mantel quite the statement piece. It was captured quite beautifully.
I then came across this piece at the French Market and I love how the above mantel and this both share the deep mahogany stain. What I love about the below mantel though is the more feminine lines. She's thick, but has such beautiful details. She walks the line of being both feminine and masculine.
I then noticed an old push button on the side. It makes me dream of where this piece may have been and the story's she could tell.

Oh , Why did me husband have to say NO to grasscloth wallpaper? Funny it makes me want it even more! He has had the unfortunate task of removing it from a 70's office building...darn.
Lovely! Love trying to decipher the back story - do you think it was a staff button? When we moved into our old house, there was a staff button under the table that still worked!! And too funny because it was like 5 feet to the kitchen.
It's nice to see you appreciating dark wood. In my last copy of House Beautiful, I found nary a piece of dark wood in the entire magazine. Trends come and go, I guess, but dark wood is classic!
Thought of you today. I was in an antique shop and ran across 2 french barometers! They looked just like the ones in you post.
Take Care,
Heather
